Drashti Dhami is the new name of success

Well really Drashti is the new name of success amongst tellytown. The Diva Drashti Dhami needs no introduction as her work and her charm speaks for itself. She is the Dhak Dhak girl of Indian Television whose career is reaching new heights everyday with completing her 6 successful years in Indian TV.
She had already won our hearts when she first appeared on TV in Dill Mill Gaye in 2007 and then continued to mesmerise us by being innocent , vivacious n bubbly Geet Handa in Geet. Well she is continuing to win hearts of zillions by her brilliant performance in Madhubala – Ek Ishq Ek Junoon and also as a participant in Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa. Drashti Dhami needs no introduction as her work and her charm speaks for itself. In 2013 she once again proved that she is one of the best in town and not someone to mess around with.
Who knows this sweet little angel will be the Dhadkan of millions of hearts someday. Lets take a look of the  6 years of her successful career.
How we know her:From her first daily soap itself Drashti caught the audiences’ attention and has been loved ever since. Be it her role as Dr.Muskaan or Geet or the current Madhubala, Drashti has played each part effortlessly. Her charismatic persona mixed with her acting abilities has helped her become one of the top actresses on TV today. And before even stepping on the small screen Drashti was seen performing in remix songs, dancing being her strong suit.

In 2012, Drashti was named the 12th Most Sexiest Asian Women in the World adding another feather to her cap.

Where she left her mark in 2013:Her current show Madhubala began in 2012 and being the protagonist Drashti has shown varied shades to her character. From being a simple middle-class girl her character moved on to become a Superstar’s wife and a strong individual who was ready to face any circumstance. Many times in the past year Drashti’s portrayal of Madhu was appreciated by her fans, especially whenever she did emotionally charged scenes.

As we mentioned that dancing is one of her many talents because of which she was seen participating in Jhalak season 5. Her partner for the show was Salman Yusuff Khan who had already done the show thrice before. With a lethal combination of Drashti’s graceful dancing, Salman’s experienced choreography and the immense love of her fans it became kind of obvious for them to win the title. More than her winning her efforts to juggle between Madhubala and Jhalak was highly appreciated by her fans and it also showed her passion and commitment towards her work.

In the coming year:Going by the recent track in Madhubala, Drashti’s character might once again go through a tumultuous period with her on-screen husband RK. What is to be seen in 2014 is if her character will once again don the role of heroine and win RK back?  In other news, after winning the coveted title of Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa we have heard Drashti has been receiving endless movie offers, even from Rohit Shetty for lead in Singham 2. It’s being said that after seeing Drashti act and dance in her respective shows Rohit is looking to sign her over his first choice Kareena Kapoor Khan.

Well, if she signs or not is another story altogether but we do hope that 2014 turns out to be as fruitful for Drashti as the year gone by and may we get to see her charm us on big screen too!

Candid Chat with Drashti post her Jhalak win

Candid Chat with Drashti post her Jhalak win.
Last Saturday, television actress Drashti Dhami, better known as Madhubala in Madhubala — Ek Ishq Ek Junoon(Colors), danced away with the Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa trophy and a cash prize of Rs 50 lakh, along with her choreographer-partner Salman Khan. The ecstasy of winning Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa (JDJ) hasn’t affected Drashti Dhami’s work schedule. She is already back to work, and is currently shooting for her TV show, Madhubala. “We had a party on the sets,” says the Drashti, who feels that she is overburdened and is relentlessly working like a machine. She talks about the recently earned laurel, her acting plans and more.

After watching her perform in 'Jhalak Dikhla Ja', Neetu Singh told Drashti Dhami that she sees her future in movies. The hazel eyed girl has just won the dance reality show and is the lead of popular show 'Madhubala'.

So lets check out does she have any plans of Bollywood???

You were a favourite to win and yet when your name was announced by judges Karan Johar and Remo D’Souza [Madhuri Dixit was absent as her father had passed away the day before], you looked very shocked…
I was shocked! I knew I had been a consistent performer throughout and that my fans had been very consistent in voting for me, but you never know with these things. With audience votes involved, anything can happen at the last minute. In fact, the feeling hasn’t sunk in even now. I slept through the whole of Sunday and I am still in a zombie state of mind (laughs).

What were your immediate thoughts when you were announced the winner?Honestly, I don’t remember what happened, I was in another zone.  My family came up on stage, my brother lifted me, but for some 30 seconds, I was completely lost! Of course, I am glad that my hard work paid off. There was a point when I wanted to quit. My scores were low, my body had given up, I was completely exhausted juggling between the shoot for Madhubala andJhalak... But Salman (Yusuff Khan – partner-choreographer) encouraged and motivated me.

Since the beginning of the show, you were expected to win. What were your hopes?I never thought of winning when I joined JDJ. I always wanted to be a part of the show. My rule was to go with the flow and enjoy every moment rather than thinking about winning and losing.

What was the winning moment like?
I don’t remember the moment at all! I was in a strange zone when the results were being announced… I was so dazed. Even the first 30 seconds… one minute… after my name was announced, I couldn’t react at all. Only when I got the trophy in my hand could I think: ‘Okay, this is for real.’

Did you feel you were favoured?I don’t think so. I wasn’t getting full marks in all my acts. I got low scores as well when my acts weren’t up to the mark. If I was favoured, they (the channel and the makers of the show) would have ensured that I shot for six hours for Madhubala and six for JDJ. But that didn’t happen. I used to put in 12 hours for the serial and rehearse for the next six hours for JDJ.

But wasn’t there any point of time in the show when you thought that maybe you could go the whole way?
I was confident that I had put in a lot of hard work and I have been brought up to believe that hard work always pays. But there was always this small doubt at the back of my mind whether I would make it or not till the very end.

Looking back, what do you think worked for you?

It would be my fans who supported me throughout. They encouraged me to better myself with every act. Also, I am a very hard-working person and I have had bruised knees, scraped elbows and a dislocated shoulder on the show. And, of course, Salman and his choreography, and the brilliant concepts he came up with week after week really worked for me.

How was your journey on the show? It’s been interesting and something I will cherish forever. Especially the judge’s comments like Karan (Johar) saying I was better than Kareena when I performed Halkat Jawani (Heroine), or the one where they said I am meant to be the brand ambassador for Jhalak, (she started as a non-dancer)  or that I look like a movie star! I remember in the beginning, everybody was saying good things, I was looking nice and generally running on adrenaline. I also remember the Egyptian act which got a lot of appreciation.
When I was rehearsing for it everything was going wrong, but the performance turned out well. The same happened with Humko Aaj Kal Hai (Madhuri Dixit’s hit song from Sailaab)! I was really nervous about performing the song in front of Madhuri.

On the show, Karan Johar’s pick of your best moment on Jhalak was when you danced to Humko aajkal (Sailaab). What would you pick as your most memorable moment on the show?
It would be all the bits, actually. Everything about Jhalak has been very memorable, right from the first episode to the rehearsals to not getting the steps right to making some awesome friends on the show. The judges… the stage… everything about Jhalak was special.

From Lauren Gottlieb to Shaan to the kids Sonali and Sumanth, your competition in the finals was very tough…
Very, very tough! Everyone was equally good, but I think it was the non-dancers like me who showed a massive growth. That’s why if I had to pick someone else besides me as the winner, it would be Shaan because he isn’t a trained dancer, but Lauren and the kids are. It was tougher for me and Shaan to learn the steps than it was for the others.

How was Salman as a choreographer-partner?
He was very patient with me. He’s known to lose his temper easily, but with me he never did because he knew I would come into the rehearsals after shooting for Madhubala for 12 hours. We made a good pair.

How strenuous was it to juggle Jhalak with the shoot of a daily soap like Madhubala?
I think God gave me some magical powers to pull through all these months. I really don’t know how I managed it but it was very, very hectic. In the last four months, I got only two off-days! I worked for 20 hours every single day. But I guess it’s just my love and passion for dance that helped me cope.

Tell us about your last performance on the Rangeela song? The 3D mapping graphics act (where she had to match the steps with the graphics on LED and the floor) was something nobody has attempted on TV before. It was difficult and I myself didn’t know what I was doing. Finally, when I saw it I was amazed that it turned out so well.

If not you, who would you have liked to see as the winner?Lauren and the kids are dancers, so it would have to be Shaan because like me he started from scratch.

Do you plan to take up dance seriously?
I would love to. But I don’t know how much time I can give to dance. I would genuinely like to make it a career.

Now that the dance show is over, what are your plans?
As of now, I am continuing with Madhubala. All I am looking forward to is getting back to my earlier shooting schedule and relaxing at home. I have been overworked with JDJ and Madhubala. I plan to go on a vacation soon.
In your last interview, you said you are happy doing television. But do you aspire to do films now? I am happy doing television. I am enjoying this moment in life. I don’t know what’s in store for me. I will be playing the role of a heroine in Madhubala.
Finally, how do you plan to reward yourself?
I want to take a break for three-four days and go somewhere and relax. Hope I can do it soon.

Drashti Dhami Loves: Her family, chilling out with friends and sleeping

Drashti is grateful to fans & feels larger than life on winning Jhalak but finds it difficult to believe that she actually won

Months of tasking schedule, sleepless nights, shedding blood, sweat, tears with their spirited and heart wrenching performances for over 16 weeks bruises and cramps…all the pain and hard work has finally paid off for Madhubala aka Drashti Dhami with Salman Yusuf Khan who very proudly bagged the Jhalak Trophy in the 6th installment on Saturday night in the presence of judges Karan Johar and Remo D’Souza. And have proved to the Trinity of JhalakMadhuri Dixit-Nene, Karan Johar and Remo D’souza and the viewers that they are the winners of the ultimate dance off -Jhalak Dikhlaa Jaa 2013.

Drashti Dhami with the highest amount of votes in the Jhalak history. The no. 1 TV actress is now a popular Diva too.

Her never say die attitude, inimitable performances got her a lot of support from her fans and well-wishers that helped her bag the coveted title. Lauren Gottlieb and Sonali Majumdar were the first and second runner-up respectively.

Asked about her joining other reality shows, Drashti said right now her priority is Madhubala. "I will concentrate on Madhubala as I haven't given it too much time. As far as other reality shows are concerned, I don't know what I will do. As of now, I just want to rest and rejuvenate myself," she said.

Drashi-Salman team won the trophy as well as Rs50 lakh prize money. "I have no idea what I will do with the prize money as of now, lets see," Drashti said.

We must say her never say die attitude, inimitable performances got her a lot of support from her fans and well-wishers that helped her bag the coveted title. And a big thanks to her choreo-partner Salman Yusuff Khan. “Salman, my choreographer, was very understanding and pushed me to the level that has made me a dancer. Lastly, I will always be grateful to my fans who've always recognized my hard work, and never stopped showing their love through their votes,” said Drashti.

The Grand Finale evening was graced by the Greek God of Bollywood – Hrithik Roshan along with Priyanka Chopra. The duo boosted the morale of the finalists who graced the stage one last time to give in their best.

India knew Drashti Dhami as a household name for her incredible acting skills as Madhubala but her challenge was to prove herself as a dancer without any prior professional training. With her choreo-partner Salman’s supportive mentoring, Drashti transformed into one of the most graceful dancers on the Jhalak stage. Drashti has portrayed some breath taking performances from bollywood to hip hop, from semi-classical to international dance forms like Rumba and Paso Doble. A well deserving winner of the trophy, Drashti juggled between shooting for a daily soap and rehearsing for Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa. During the course of the show, Drashti did go through some lows but she bounced back as a fighter thanks to the immense love and support she received from the viewers.

Drashti was balancing television soap Madhubala - Ek Ishq Ek Junoon along with Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa.The work pressure was so high that she told her choreographer, Salman Yusuf Khan, that she wants to quit. "I did think of quitting. There was a time when I started getting low scores. The amount of energy, which I was trying to put into my performances, was not showing."
"After a month and a half, there is no physical strength left. It is only mental strength. I was so tired, I told Salman that I want to quit. He was shattered," she added.
"But I knew, I would not give up...I know myself," she added. The 28-year-old described winning the show as a "larger than life" feeling.
"It is a proud moment. It is larger than life feeling. But I am very tired and really zoned out right now," she said.

When asked about the victory, she said, ”I find it difficult to believe that I’ve actually won considering there were such great dancers with me in the competition. But after receiving appreciation from the judges, I was motivated to improve my performances with every passing week. Yes, I did believe my body was giving up in between as it’s not easy to shuffle between two shows but the judges encouraging words were like a morale booster that helped me give my best always. Salman, my choreographer, was very understanding and pushed me to the level that has made me a dancer. Lastly, I will always be grateful to my fans who’ve always recognized my hard work, and never stopped showing their love through their votes.”
The show’s hosts Kapil and Manish were at their humorous best and were accompanied by Kapil’s newest family aka Ali ‘Dadi’ Asgar and Sunil ‘Gutthi’ The ex-contestants of this season Sana Saeed, Mukti Mohan and Sidharth Shukla also gave an explosive performance on Raghupati Raghav from the movie Krish 3. Not just this, season5 contestants Rashmi Desai and Karan Wahi along with the last year winner Gurmeet Chaudhary showcased some fun-filled performances on the latest hits.
On the occasion of the Super Finale, Manisha Sharma, Weekend Programming Head, COLORS said, “This season we wanted to surprise audiences with pure dancing and fierce competition right from day one. Thanks to the incredible performances by our celebrity talent who dared to go beyond the usual and made Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa a top performer in the weekend and the No.1 dance reality show in India.”
Jhalak Dikhhhla Jaa, the local adaptation of the BBC Worldwide format Strictly Come Dancing, is produced in over 40 countries worldwide including India. Myleeta Aga, the Senior Vice President and General Manager, BBC Worldwide, India and Content Head Asia commented on the Season Finale, “This season of Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa we promised a bigger canvas with the bar being raised in terms of presentation and concepts and with the Super Finale I am content that we have achieved that. The winner Drashti Dhami truly redefined dancing by delivering international standards of performances this season

Well then who will be Colors’ Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa Season 6 (BBC Worldwide Productions) winner is the talk of the town. Everyone is speculating on who will win this season of Jhalak out of the Top 4 finalists with some amazing dancers like Drashti, Lauren and Sonali and a non-dancer Shaan of this dance reality show.

The finale of Colors' dance reality show Jhalak Dikla Jaa 6 has four contestants Drashti Dhami, Lauren Gottlieb, Shaan and Sonali and Sumanth fighting for a place in the finals, where most probably two contestants will jump the final hurdle to make it to the finals. This sort of hints the possibility of these two performing in the final round.

There are rumours circulating that the finals will have Lauren Gottlieb and Drashti Dhami fighting in the final round. The official website of Colors' Jhalak Dikhla Jaa 6 has the final performances of Drashti Dhami and Lauren Gottlieb and not Shaan or Sonali and Sumanth. This sort of hints the possibility of these two performing in the final round.
Drashti has a culmination of success, popularity and talent and this will work in her favour. She has a high chance of winning Jhalak. Shaan have been seen working hard and also impressing the audience and the judges with his performances. Audiences have seen Sonali impressing the judges and both Sonali and her partner Sumanth will be appreciated for their performances. Lauren is a professional dancer also popular by now. She is quite favourite of the judges since day1. So who will win?

If we come to the fan following and performances of these two contestants, Drashti Dhami seems to be a front runner. Drashti's show on Colors Madhubala - Ek Ishq Ek Junoon has a huge following and in particular for the role she is playing, Madhubala. This can be considered a huge plus for the actress. Whereas, Lauren Gottlieb, the American dancer-actress is a spectacular dancer and a brilliant performer and she too has considerable fan following.

Lets take a look of the interview by telegraph india of the Top 4 Finalists of Jhalak 6

Drashti Dhami with her choreographer Salman Yusuff Khan

Drashti Dhami
Drashti is a popular TV actress who shot into the spotlight with Geet — Hui Sabse Parayi. Her chemistry with co-star Vivian Dsena on Madhubala on Colors has earned her a huge fan following.

On being a Jhalak finalist: I am on a high. I am very happy but very nervous at the same time.
Honestly, I think of myself as my biggest competitor. I want to get better with every act.

Jhalak journey so far: It’s been an amazing journey. I’ve made really good friends here and learnt so many dance forms. It’s been tiring and at one point I wanted to give up but it’s been a journey that I will never forget in my life.

Best act so far: When Salman Khan came on the show, it was a beautiful moment for me. Also when I got my first 30 on 30.When I danced to Humko aajkal (Sailaab), Karan Johar told me that I danced like a superstar!

Jhalak and me: It’s been a journey that I will never forget. Because of Jhalak, people know me now.

Preparation for finale: I am really, really tired right now. But there’s just few days left and so I am going to kill it! I’ve given my best and I really don’t know what my chances of winning are but… I want to win it.

If I don’t win: It would be Shaan. He’s really working very hard. Lauren is a professional dancer and the kids (Sonali and Sumanth) as well, but Shaan has really put in a lot of effort to be here.

Sonali and Sumanth
The dance prodigies are the winners of last year’s India’s Got Talent. Nine-year-old Sonali, who hails from Sholoardari on the Indo-Bangladesh border, is the wonder kid of Jhalak. Hear it from Sumanth...Sonali & Sumanth

On being a Jhalak finalist: We are really happy to be in the finals, as Jhalak is a grand stage. This has all been possible because of our dance teacher Bivash Sir (Chowdhury).

Closest competition: Lauren di and Punit bhaiya (Pathak) because they are also professional dancers like us, but are more experienced.

Jhalak journey so far: It’s been difficult as we started off with Sonali’s injury. But with her recovery our performances got better.

Best act so far: Maria Maria where we did salsa and Man mohini where we performed semi-classical.

Jhalak and us: Jhalak gave us the opportunity to showcase different dance styles. Every time, we’ve tried to show something different.

Preparation for finale: We are going to show something that has never been seen, not just on Jhalak but for the first time in the world!

If we don’t win: Shaan bhaiya should win, as there has been a remarkable improvement in him from his first performance. Being a non-dancer he has reached the finals. He’s also a great person.

Lauren Gottlieb with her choreographer Punit Pathak
Lauren Gottlieb
A finalist on So You Think You Can Dance, Lauren has been dance teacher to Tom Cruise and Rihanna! She’s also acted in the hit Prabhudeva dance film ABCD.

On being a Jhalak finalist: It’s a dream come true. I groomed myself through Jhalak week after week and got 30 after 30 and I started getting more and more fans. Punit (Pathak, her choreographer-partner) and I have had a fabulous journey together.

Closest competition: It’s everyone because everyone wants it really bad. I’ve got to just focus on myself and bring out an amazing last performance because I want that trophy!

Jhalak journey so far: We’ve really put our best foot forward every week as we’ve wanted to do something that no one has ever seen. I’ve got amazing compliments from the judges and met some of the biggest Bollywood stars!

Best act so far: The ‘shama parwana’ act. It was one of those magical moments that I always wanted to have on stage. Karan Johar stood up and said that this was the best dance Jhalak had ever seen.

Jhalak and me: My life’s changed drastically. Before ABCD, no one knew me. Jhalak has made Lauren a household name.

Preparation for finale: It’s going to be a treat. I am confident of myself and let’s just see what happens.

If I don’t win: I’d want to see Punit as the winner! (Laughs) Every week he came up with something so mind-blowing.

Shaan with his partner Marischa Fernandes
Shaan
One of Bollywood’s most prolific playback singers, Shaan has gone from outsider to surprise package to dark horse to one of the favourites!

On being a Jhalak finalist: I am definitely very surprised to make it so far. I think, to quite an extent, it’s been from the audience votes that I have come so far.

Closest competition: Honestly, they are all too good for me. They are much younger than I am, they are more into dancing. I am just an outsider.

Jhalak journey so far: It’s been nice, but very tiring. I have lost about 5-6kg. In a way, I am very proud of myself that I’ve pulled it off without any major injuries. Today, I’ve learnt to appreciate dance more. I have also learnt the virtue of being more tenacious.

Best act so far: For the pillow act, I had put in a lot of hard work and it called for careful coordination. I have also done many daredevil acts.

Jhalak and me: I was always a little sceptical initially about how people would accept me, but I’ve got a lot of love and encouragement. It was also a process of self-discovery.

Preparation for finale: We have to put up a good show. I’ll do the best I can and put up a good fight.

If I don’t win: I think it’s fair to see Drashti as the winner. It is not a dance competition. Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa is dancing with the stars. I think it’s going to be Drashti.

Also, to add to all this, Hrithik Roshan and Priyanka Chopra will be on the show promoting their film Krrish 3. This has already been making rounds everywhere and there is huge expectations from this final episode. Let's wait and watch, if the rumours are true and Drashti and Lauren fight at the final round? Or the talent bombs, Sonali and Sumanth will in fact put up a fight for their stand too? We shall get all the answers on the final episode of the show Jhalak Dikhla Jaa 6 on Colors tomorrow.

Let’s see what shapes ultimately. Whoever lifts the Jhalak trophy, the winner will always be the viewers. Cheers!!!
